The A6 starts at $46k. The A7 starts at $68k. Is the extra storage space and stunning good looks worth a twenty-thousand dollar premium? Are the two even comparable? If you had enough money for either, and it was your money, which would you take?

A7

I’d spend the extra $$ for an A7. The A6 is a good car, but the A7 is a great car.

428i > 328i because hatchback and MWAR STUFF (which comes out to about the same cost when optioned on a 328i anyway)

I'd buy an S6 for the price of an A7. Because horsepower.

RS7. :)

The A6 that costs $46k is a 4cyl front wheel drive. If you want an A6 with the 3.0 and AWD, it will run you $57,400, or around $11,000 less. Then, consider the fact that on the A6, LED headlights are $1400 and four-zone climate control is $900. Both of those are standard on the A7. So comparably equipped, it’s around a $9000 difference.
With that in mind, if I could, I’d splurge and get the A7.

Nope. You know, my family used to bring my sister’s cello along to the dealership to see about the space available in a car. Now my dad just brings me, lol. At the Audi dealership, we tried the back seat of an A7 for laughs. Nice materials, but holy shit anyone really above 6'0" is gonna bang their heads on the roof all of the time. That’s why I can sit in my dad’s A6 while typing this.

I’d DD an A7. Sex on wheels

And also, the A6, lets not forget is still a handsome car
(S6 pictured but you get the point)

If I had $68k to spend on a four door coupe, I would by a Model S.

And both the A6 and A7 will be nicer inside (exactly where you will spend most of your time), along with any comparable BMW or Mercedes as well. The Tesla is nice for being electric and really fast and all, but it really isn’t anything special aside from that. Don’t let the hype carry your decisions.

The guy that taught both my Vehicle Dynamics and Machine Design classes drives an A7. Based on his experience with cars/racing/building things that are badass, I’d trust his judgement and go with the A7.

YOU DON’T OWN ME!
OK but seriously, the electric thing is pretty cool. I totally believe you about the interior, both because I live Audi’s interior design language, and because I’ve heard a lot of criticisms of the Tesla interior.
That said, the electric hype is pretty awesome, especially since my wife and I would kill to have something that seated seven as sexy as an S. And you say speed like that’s a minor thing! It’s not just speed either, it’s guilt free speed! Not because I care about the environment (I do) but because I always feel like a tool laying in to the pedal when I’m getting sub 20 mpg on premium, and paying for it myself.

I would say that while the interior is not all that special, the toys plus the whole fast electric thing make it very much a viable alternative.

I did not know that, I (unfairly) assumed the difference in options/powertrain for each of the respective base models was marginal. Still, if I had $70k for an Audi then I take an S6.

The S6 is an all around phenomenal car imo. Performance, interior, price. It has everything

Mercedes does the same thing with the CLS and E class. But in that case, you get way more styling, less practicality, and optional v8. It will be interesting to see if they keep the v8 option when the new cls shows up in a year or two.

I'm not an Audi guy by any means, but I'd go A7. I was once sitting outside a café having a cup of coffee and a crepe or some other such nonsense, and this older chap from NY or NJ pulls up in an A7 and parks on the street about 12 feet away. It really has such a nice presence. Downright elegant.

What major were in you college? I’m a mech engineering major now, undergrad. Btw sweet username lol.

besides the difference in powertrains and standard features that would put the a6 in the price range of the a7 with the equipment, I feel like the a7 would stand out more in a sea of beige sedans and CUV’s in today’s world.

Thanks! I’m a mechE as well, graduating next week to follow it up with.... going back to school for a master’s to still be a mechE, but with an IC Engines focus. Where are you going to school currently?

University of Southern California, you? I plan on going to grad school in a few years to specify in aerospace.

USC put out some killer ski edits a while back! Grad school for aerospace would be really neat, keep on that. I’m going to Colorado School of Mines, outside of Denver, for undergrad and grad. Are you on the Formula or Mini Baja team there?

Nah but I am on the Aero Design Team and in Rocket Propulsion Lab. Definitely more interested in aero stuff, cars are just more of a casual interest.
